Instagram DM automation for creators

Creators use Instagram DM automation to deliver a free resource automatically when someone comments a keyword on a Reel. Pick a trigger word, write the DM, attach it to a post. Tadlo adds a follow gate that verifies the follow through Meta's API rather than trusting a tap, and captures emails so the audience is yours outside the app.

The situation

You post a Reel, it does better than usual, and three hundred people comment GUIDE. You spend the evening copying a link into DMs one at a time, and by the time you reach the bottom of the list the people at the top have moved on.

Or you skip it, and the reach turns into nothing.

The gap between a post performing and that performance becoming anything — followers, emails, sales — is the part nobody warns you about. It is entirely manual, it happens at the worst possible time, and it does not scale even a little.

Workflows

Lead magnet delivery. Reel ends with “comment TEMPLATE”. Anyone who comments it gets a DM with the link, within seconds, whether that is three people or three thousand. Set it up before you publish so it is live from the first comment — the first hour of a Reel is when comments arrive fastest, and an automation attached afterwards misses exactly the people who were most enthusiastic.

Follow-gated freebie. Same trigger, one step in between: if the person does not already follow you, they are asked to before the link is released. If they do follow, they skip the gate entirely and get the link immediately — worth saying plainly, because an honour-system gate cannot tell the difference and asks your existing followers to follow you on every request.

Tadlo checks the follow through Meta's API rather than trusting the tap. Across 12,344 production checks on 91 accounts between 14 August and 5 September 2026, 33.3% of people who tapped “I’m following” had not. On an honour-system gate every one of them receives the freebie anyway. The technical detail is here if you want to see how the check works.

Gate things you are giving away. Do not gate a product link or a booking page — every extra step there costs you money rather than earning followers.

Email capture before the link. Instead of sending the link directly, send them to a page that asks for an email first. Higher friction, and worth it when the resource is substantial. This is the only part of the flow that builds something you keep if Instagram changes its mind about your reach tomorrow.

Story reply automation. A poll or question sticker generates replies. Any reply containing your keyword triggers a DM. Cheaper to produce than a Reel, and the intent is often higher, because story viewers are already your audience.

Features that do the work

What it costs

Everything above is on the free plan: unlimited DMs, unlimited automations, the follow gate, and link-in-bio with lead capture. No card, no time limit.

Paid plans remove Tadlo's branding from your messages and allow more connected Instagram accounts. They do not unlock the features above. Current prices are on the pricing page — they are shown in your own currency there rather than converted here.

The thing worth comparing across tools is the billing model rather than the headline price. Where a tool bills per contact, the month a Reel performs is the month the bill jumps, which is the opposite of what you want from a good month. Tadlo's plans are a flat monthly price however many people you message.

Is Tadlo right for you?

Tadlo is built for creators who want one channel done properly. It starts at the comment and ends at the captured lead — trigger, gate, deliver, capture, measure.

If you want one tool covering Instagram plus Messenger, WhatsApp, SMS and email sequences, a multi-channel platform is the right category and Tadlo is not a replacement for one. If you want scheduling and content planning, that is different again.

If Instagram is where your audience actually is, everything above is on the free plan.

Questions? We've Got Answers.

How do creators use Instagram DM automation?

Most commonly to deliver a free resource automatically when someone comments a keyword on a post or Reel. The creator says “comment GUIDE” in the video, and anyone who does receives a DM with the link within seconds. Beyond delivery, the same trigger can gate the resource behind a follow, capture an email address, or route the person to a landing page.

Do I need a lot of followers for this to be worth setting up?

No. The value scales with comment volume, not follower count, and a small account with an engaged audience often converts better than a large passive one. The setup cost is the same either way, so there is no threshold below which it stops being worth doing.

Will a follow gate annoy my existing followers?

Not if the tool checks properly. Tadlo verifies follow status through Meta's API before sending the gate message, so anyone who already follows you skips it and receives the link immediately. An honour-system gate cannot make that distinction and asks everyone, including people who have followed you for years.

Does automating DMs put my account at risk?

Tadlo sends through Meta's official Messaging API, which is the supported route for Business and Creator accounts. It never holds your password, cannot message anyone who has not contacted you first, and paces sending within safe sending limits. What you send still matters more than how it is delivered.

Do I need a Facebook Page?

No. Tadlo connects through Instagram Business Login and needs only an Instagram Business or Creator account.

What happens after someone comments?

A comment lets Tadlo send that person one private reply, and that opportunity stays open for seven days. If they reply to it, a standard 24-hour messaging window opens and the conversation can continue normally. If they never reply, the single private reply is all that is permitted.
