The rules in short
- Use an approved label. ASCI's final guidelines list Advertisement, Ad, Sponsored, Collaboration, Partnership, Employee and Free gift. Creative alternatives aren't considered adequate.
- Put it where people see it. The label should be upfront, not buried at the end of a long caption.
- Label each post. A blanket disclosure in your bio doesn't count.
- Picture or video only? For content without a caption, such as stories, the label should be on the image or video itself.
- Platform tools are extra. Instagram's paid partnership tag is in addition to your own label, not instead of it.
Affiliate programs have their own rules too
Amazon requires Associates to disclose that they earn from qualifying purchases, and other programs have similar clauses in their terms. When you send links by DM, a short line in the message, like "I earn a commission if you buy through these links", covers the conversation too.
This is a summary of public guidance, not legal advice. Read the current guidelines at ascionline.org and your program's terms.

Do I need to disclose affiliate links on Instagram in India?
ASCI's influencer guidelines expect a disclosure label whenever there's a material connection with the brand, and earning commission is one. Affiliate programs like Amazon also require disclosure in their own terms.
Which hashtag should I use for affiliate posts?
ASCI's final guidelines list Advertisement, Ad, Sponsored, Collaboration, Partnership, Employee and Free gift as approved labels.
Is a disclosure in my Instagram bio enough?
No. ASCI's guidelines say a blanket disclosure in the bio isn't adequate. Each promotional post needs its own label.
